CT Scanning

South Devon Referrals have an onsite CT scanner and are able to provide a service for both referred cases and outpatients. We are the first on-site veterinary CT service in Devon or Cornwall using a medical standard fan beam CT scanner.

For veterinary surgeons to refer a case for outpatient CT, please complete an outpatient CT referral form.

The Toshiba Aquilion Lightning is a brand new 16-row helical CT system. We have opted for a highly specified model with the latest advances developed in the human medical field rather than a secondhand system or a “veterinary specific” lower specified system. Our service is provided in partnership with a team of Diploma holding radiologists from VetCT Consultants in Telemedicine (a UK based specialist service), ensuring every case receives specialist interpretation.

We have prepared a useful document of further information on the outpatient scanning service for referring vets, please download here.

We offer three levels of urgency for outpatient CT cases detailed below. Unlike many outpatient CT services we are willing to accept clinically less stable patients and to offer a true “urgent” service. We kindly ask that all such cases are discussed with one of the South Devon Referrals CT clinicians before referral to ensure appropriate care for the patient.

Appointment offered to client within: Time for report after scanning: Total time Fee
Routine 1-5 working days 1-9 working days 2-14 working days No additional fee
Priority 1-2 working days 24 hours 1-3 working days £125.00
Urgent (only after discussion with a South Devon Referrals clinician) Same or next working day 4-6 hours Same day or next day £315.00 (+ additional care costs if required)

The cost of CT scanning is as follows (all inc. VAT):

CT scan first region (including GA or sedation, contrast if required and specialist report) £1250.00
CT scan additional region (including GA or sedation, contrast if required and specialist report) £350.00
